The Janiculum terraces give you one of the most complete panoramas in Rome, with the dome of St. Peter's, the Tiber curve, and the historic center all visible at once. It is a good place to understand the city geographically because the skyline unfolds instead of arriving as a single postcard frame. The walk up is part of the experience, especially if you start in Trastevere and climb gradually. Come for the broad view, but stay because the breezy hilltop feels like a separate pocket of the city.
